Swine flu Pandemic
The NHS flu line has been switched off, cases have been dropping consistently since Christmas with fewer than 5,000 new diagnoses being made each week - is this a sign that pandemic is over in the UK?
We are not out of the woods yet, and seasonal flu viruses are upon us so we all still need to be vigilant and maintain strict hygiene standards. It is also suggested that the H1N1 swine flu virus is likely to return next winter and will be around for some years to come.
Remember - Good hygiene is important all year round – not just when winter flu viruses strike.
TAKE PRECAUTIONS:
To reduce the risk of catching or spreading the virus you should:
- Cover your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, using a tissue, and throw the tissue away quickly and carefully
CATCH IT, BIN IT, KILL IT! - Wash your hands regularly
- Dry your hands properly
- When soap and water are not available, use Hand Sanitiser
- Clean hard surfaces (like door handles and remote controls) frequently with sanitising wipes
- Avoid people showing flu symptoms if you can
